The Evangelical message announced by the successive missionary currents in Latin America seems to have forgotten an important part of the original content. In the proclamation and practice of most Evangelical churches, an emphasis on the salvation of the soul, on the intimate and personal bond with God, on the internal dynamics of the church, on individual progress, on the eschatological future and on the carefree use of natural “resources” is evident.
On the other side of the same coin, there is a clear disinterest for the body of people and their real needs, for the present, the local reality, the social commitment and the care of Creation. In The Cut-in-Half Gospel, these dichotomies are presented as a misconception that needs to be urgently corrected. It is a call to recover the integrality of the Gospel message, in order to be able to respond in pertinent ways to the needs and pains of a world in crisis.
